'Stop Genocide,' 'Aguner Poroshmoni' screened at TSC

"Stop Genocide," a documentary, and "Aguner Poroshmoni, a feature-length film," based on the Liberation War of Bangladesh, were screened by the Dhaka University Film Society on Sunday at the TSC, Dhaka University.

Students and audiences emphasized the importance of screening Liberation War-based films, particularly in the current political context, to uphold the spirit of 1971.

They expressed concerns over recent attempts by various political factions to distort the history and sacrifices of the Liberation War.

Suvro Das, General Secretary of the Dhaka University Film Society, said: “As part of our regular activities, we screen films to convey meaningful messages to the masses. Every year on December 16, we organize a film screening session to remind people of the history and sacrifices of Bangladesh’s Liberation War.

"We deeply value both the significance of the Liberation War and the Mass Uprising of 2024. If quality content is produced on the uprising, we are open to screening it as well.”

Rokunuzzaman Toha, president of the Dhaka University Film Society, added: “Last year, we screened 'A State is Born' and 'Meghmallar,' both focused on the Liberation War. This year, we continued the tradition. We firmly believe the sacrifices of 1971 cannot and must not be undermined. Our annual Liberation War film screening is a vital part of our ongoing movement.”
