Another person named Swapna, 25, has died from injuries sustained in a gas fire incident in the capital's Pallabi on November 24, raising the death toll to five.
Swapna was a garment worker. She passed away on Saturday at 3:45pm while undergoing treatment in the ICU of the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute.
Confirming the matter, Resident Medical Officer of the Burn Institute, Dr Shaon Bin Rahman, said that 14% of Swapna's body was burned.
Previously, Abdul Khalil, his wife Ruma Akter, and their two sons Mohammad and Abdullah—residents of the same house—died at different times. Among the injured, Swapna’s husband Shahjahan, 35, has been treated and discharged.
Swapna was the daughter of Abdul Malek from Nalitabari Upazila in Sherpur District.
The explosion occurred early on November 24 in a house in Mirpur due to a gas leak, causing seven members of the same family to get burned.
They were rescued and admitted to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in the morning.
Khalil lit a gas-lighter around 3am to light a coil to ward off mosquitoes, causing the fire. They all got burned in the process.
Khalil's elder brother, Milon, believes that gas had accumulated in the room due to a leak from the house's gas line.
After the incident, local people rescued them and took them to the burn institute.
Dr Shaon Bin Rahman mentioned that one more person is still undergoing treatment in connection with this incident.
