Uttara University hosts 'Pathways to a sustainable future'

Uttara University organized an impactful program titled Pathways to a Sustainable Future on Wednesday.

This program was organized by the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) in collaboration with the Sustainability and Leadership Club.

The program aimed to foster innovation and raise awareness about critical global issues such as climate action, zero-carbon initiatives, e-waste management and sustainable development.

The program was graced by the presence of Dr Eaysmin Ara Lekha, vice chancellor of Uttara University, and Dr Gour Gobinda Goswami, pro-VC of Uttara University, who delivered inspirational speeches highlighting the importance of sustainability and leadership.

Both speakers emphasised the university’s commitment to nurturing environmentally conscious students and fostering a culture of innovation and ethical responsibility.

The event featured a series of enlightening speeches by distinguished guests.

Dr M Rezwan Khan, chairman of Power Grid PLC Bangladesh and former VC of United International University, provided a thought-provoking address on zero-carbon initiatives.

ASM Marjan Nur, climate change policy manager and accredited climate and environment adviser, delivered valuable insights into climate action and mitigation, underscoring the urgent need for collaborative efforts.

Dr Kazi Shahdat Kabir Rimon, former pro-VC of City University, spoke on sustainable development practices from an ethical perspective, while Dr Nowshad Amin, a renowned scientist in solar photovoltaic technology and professor in the Department of EEE at AIUB, shared his expertise on e-waste management and its significance in achieving sustainability goals.

The event began with a vibrant poster presentation and documentary screening, where students presented their innovative solutions to pressing sustainability challenges.

Khan Thamid Hasan, lecturer in the Department of EEE and moderator of the Sustainability and Leadership Club, introduced the club, highlighting its mission to inspire leadership and sustainable practices among students.

The program concluded with a "Vote of Thanks" by Dr Shakowat Zaman Sarker, chairman of the Department of EEE, Uttara University.

A "Prize and Certificate Distribution Ceremony" followed, recognizing the exceptional contributions and achievements of participating students.

This event was attended by esteemed faculty members, deans, chairpersons and officers of Uttara University. It stood as a testament to the university’s dedication to promoting innovation, leadership and sustainability within its academic community.
