TIB urges ACC leaders to disclose assets, ensure transparency

Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) has urged the newly appointed Chairman and Commissioners of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to voluntarily disclose their income and asset statements to ensure accountability and transparency.

TIB emphasised the importance of maintaining public trust in this key institution and called for proactive measures to promote integrity.

Dr Iftekharuzzaman, Executive Director of TIB, said that at this pivotal moment, the leadership of the ACC should take the initiative to promote transparency and accountability within the institution.

He urged the ACC leaders to disclose details regarding their income and assets, including those held under their own names or by close family members, whether declared or undeclared.

TIB also called for the disclosure of data demonstrating consistency between income from legitimate sources and accumulated wealth.

Furthermore, the organization stressed the need for independent audits to verify the accuracy, adequacy and consistency of income and asset statements.

TIB highlighted that the new leadership should clarify their positions on any allegations of abuse of authority, irregularities or corruption during their professional careers, whether these claims are published or unpublished.

Additionally, TIB called for full disclosure of any direct or indirect political affiliations, as well as a formal declaration of readiness to voluntarily resign and undergo legal investigation in case of any discrepancies in their asset declarations.

Dr Iftekharuzzaman also emphasised the significance of upholding the core values of the anti-discrimination movement and honoring the sacrifices that have shaped a "New Bangladesh."

He urged the newly appointed ACC leadership to commit to fulfilling their duties with utmost integrity, transparency and respect to ensure that their actions align with the vision of a just and corruption-free Bangladesh.
