Titumir College students demand action on university feasibility study within 48hrs

Students of Dhaka University-affiliated Government Titumir College have demanded the announcement of a feasibility study committee for upgrading the college to a university within 48 hours.

Mosharraf Hossain Rabbi, a student representative, made the announcement while reading out a written statement at a press conference on Monday on the college campus.

A feasibility study committee for “Titumir University” must be formally announced through a press release within the next 48 hours, he said.

Following the announcement, the committee must begin its work by conducting an on-site inspection at Government Titumir College within three working days, Rabbi said.

He added that a detailed feasibility report on establishing “Titumir University” must be submitted within 15 days of the committee's formation.

Rabbi warned that the protesting students would be compelled to escalate their movement with further action if their demands were not met.

Meanwhile, Abdul Hamid, a master’s student from the political science department, said that the relevant ministry on November 18 acknowledged the rationale behind the demands and decided to form a robust committee for upgrading the college to a university.

“Although this was supposed to be officially announced through a press release, there has been an unwarranted delay.”
