Teen killed by classmates over dispute in Shahjahanpur

A 17-year-old student was killed allegedly by his classmates over a prior dispute in Dhaka's Shahjahanpur area on Monday.

The victim, Ismail Hossain Rahat, was a first-year student at Faridpur Textile Polytechnic and a former student of Rajarbagh School and College.

The attack occurred on Monday afternoon, and Ismail succumbed to his injuries later that night.

Police have detained six individuals in connection with the incident, confirmed Shahjahanpur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khairul Islam.

According to the OC, Ismail was abducted by classmates Al-Mahmud Siam Pranto, 18, Orbit Hossain Bishal, 18, Maimun Hasan Abir, 18, and others due to an ongoing conflict. A heated argument escalated, and the assailants attacked Ismail with a sharp axe, leaving him critically injured. Locals managed to catch several of the attackers as they attempted to flee.

Ismail was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, but doctors declared him dead later that night.

Police have since apprehended three more suspects: Mejbahun Nobi Tonmoy, 17, Hasan, 17, and Hossain, 17.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the murder stemmed from a rivalry related to senior-junior dynamics, said OC Khairul Islam. “As a result, 10-12 people brutally and inhumanely killed Ismail. We are working to bring all those involved to justice,” he added.
