Dhaka's rail link with other parts of Bangladesh snapped due to student protest

Students of Govt Titumir College on Monday blocked the railway tracks in the Mohakhali area of the capital demanding a university, which led to the suspension of train services between Dhaka and the rest of the country.

Kamalapur Railway Station Master Anwar Hossain confirmed the information at 3:30pm.

He said train services between Dhaka and the rest of the country are still suspended because the students have not cleared the railway tracks. The services will resume once the students leave the tracks, he added.

Anwar said: "Several people were injured in the attack on the Upakul Express from Mohakhali. I cannot specify the number of injured."

Several railway officials reported that train services were operating normally from Monday morning until 11:30am. Due to the protest, the Agnibina Express, which was scheduled to depart at 11:30am, got stuck in Tejgaon.

Subsequently, two more trains heading towards Dhaka got stuck. Further trains could not depart due to the blockage of the railway tracks. No trains were able to enter Dhaka as well.
