A Dhaka court has placed Arif Hasan, managing director of private television channel Desh TV, on a two-day remand in connection with an attempted murder case filed with the Airport Police Station in the capital.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahin Reza passed the order on Sunday after the case’s investigating officer, Sub-Inspector Abu Sayeed, sought a three-day remand for interrogation.
The case stems from an incident during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement on July 19, when a boy named Sajib was allegedly shot near Scholastica School No. 1 in Uttara.
He was rushed to a hospital for treatment. Following the incident, Sajib’s father filed an attempted murder case at Airport Police Station.
Arif Hasan, also the general secretary of the Association of Television Channel Owners (ATCO), was detained by immigration police on Saturday night as he was reportedly trying to leave the country. He was later handed over to the Airport Police Station.
The investigation is ongoing, with further details expected following the remand.
