Body of DU student found hanging at her residence

The body of a female student of Dhaka University (DU) was found hanging at her residence in Dhaka’s Elephant Road area on Thursday morning. DU acting Proctor Prof M Amzad Ali confirmed the matter, saying the deceased was identified as Maria Afroze, 20, a second year student of the History department at the university. Maria’s elder sister Moria said they lived on the ninth floor of the nineteen-storey Concord Tower at Elephant Road in the capital. She went to Maria’s room and found her hanging from the ceiling fan at around 6am. Maria was then rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where duty doctors declared her dead at around 7:30am. The reasons behind the death are as yet unclear. DMCH police outpost in-charge Sub-inspector Bacchu Mia said Maria’s body had been handed over to her family.
