DMP confirms DB raid on Golam Dastagir Gazi’s Dhaka residence

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police's (DMP) Detective Branch (DB) has confirmed it conducted a raid at the residence of former minister Golam Dastagir Gazi in Siddheshwari, Dhaka.

The DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division on Sunday said in a press release that a DB team had conducted a search at Golam Dastagir’s residence as part of its routine operations, following legal procedures.

“The residence’s guard fled upon noticing the police presence. With assistance from local police, the DB team completed the search and left the premises.”

The DMP said the operation had been based on specific information aimed at arresting a suspect named in a case and recovering illegal weapons.

It emphasized that there should be no misunderstanding regarding the DB’s raid.

The DMP clarification came after a news report regarding the DB’s raid at former minister Golam Dastagir Gazi’s residence reportedly led to some confusion.

The DMP said the report published on a Bangla daily’s website had drawn its attention.

According to the report, late Saturday night, a group identifying themselves as DB officers entered Dastagir’s residence, allegedly breaking the gate lock, damaging CCTV cameras and vandalizing furniture in four rooms. Witnesses reported the individuals left after approximately two and a half hours, taking several items in a carton and two shopping bags.
