Engineer suspended after 'Awami League Zindabad' display at Kamalapur Railway Station

An assistant engineer (electrical) of the Dhaka Division of Bangladesh Railway, Mubarak Hossain, has been suspended after the phrase "Awami League Zindabad" was displayed on the LED digital display board at Kamalapur Railway Station.

This decision came on Sunday during the inaugural meeting of a five-member investigation committee formed to oversee the incident, which is expected to submit a report within two days.

Additionally, another security personnel stationed in the area was transferred.

A case was also filed at Dhaka railway police station regarding the matter.

Mohammad Mohiuddin Arif, divisional manager of Bangladesh Railway for Dhaka, said the assistant engineer responsible for the screen board was suspended due to negligence in duty. "Because the situation was not identified in time, a member of the security team in the area has been transferred."

The incident, which occurred around 9am on Saturday, reportedly created an "embarrassing" situation at the station.

Upon discovering the display, the  Electrical Engineering Department of Bangladesh Railway turned off the board. Following this, the person in charge of the department was suspended.

CCTV footage analysis reveals that three individuals are suspected of changing the display board’s message between approximately 5:56am and 5:58am on the day of the incident.

Authorities have been instructed to determine whether the incident was an act of sabotage.
