Banker among two dead in Jatrabari road accident

Two individuals, including a bank officer, were killed after being hit by a covered van in Jatrabari's Matuail area of the capital on Sunday afternoon.

The deceased were rickshaw passenger Didar Elahi, 34, and an unidentified rickshaw driver, 40.

The covered van has been seized, but its driver is on the run.

Didar Elahi was an assistant officer at SBAC Bank's Motijheel branch.

Didar's younger brother, Didar Rob Rifat, said that his elder brother had arrived in Gabtoli early in the morning from their hometown in Gaibandha and was heading home in Matuail by rickshaw when the accident happened.

According to police, the covered van hit the rickshaw from behind, resulting in the immediate deaths of both the rickshaw driver and passenger Didar Elahi.

Confirming the incident, Sub-Inspector (SI) Mojahidul Islam of Jatrabari police station said Didar Elahi's body was handed over to his family in the afternoon without an autopsy, as per their request.

Meanwhile, the rickshaw puller's body was sent to the Dhaka Medical College (DMCH) morgue for autopsy.
