The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) held a meeting with bus owners and workers to bring discipline to the city’s streets by ensuring systematic traffic management.
Speaking as the chief guest, Additional Commissioner (Traffic) Khondkar Nazmul Hasan called upon bus owners, drivers, and workers to exercise caution to help prevent accidents.
"If everyone works sincerely and carefully, it will be possible to bring the city's traffic congestion to a tolerable level. . . The Traffic Division will provide assistance to transport workers if required," he added.
Providing some directives and suggestions to bus owners for maintaining traffic rules, the additional commissioner stated that vehicles without fitness certificates will not be allowed on the streets.
He also urged transport workers not to stop vehicles in the middle of the roads and to avoid parking haphazardly along the roadside.
The Traffic Division Mirpur organized the view-exchange meeting at Gabtali Bus Terminal this evening as part of Traffic Pakkha-2024.
Deputy Police Commissioner of Traffic Division Mirpur AFM Tariq Hossain Khan and Hanif Enterprise Chairman Alhaj Md Kofil Uddin attended as special guests.
Bus-Truck Owners Association President Babu Ramesh Chandra Ghosh presided over the meeting, moderated by Additional Deputy Commissioner of Traffic Division Mirpur Yasina Ferdous.
Chairman of Hanif Enterprises Alhaj Md Kofil Uddin declared the Gabtoli Bus Terminal free from extortion.
Rover scouts and students were also present at the event.
The Traffic Pakkha-2024 began on October 21 with the aim of raising public awareness, improving traffic management, and restoring road discipline in the capital.
