Gulshan Lake Cleanup: Authorities remove illegal structures in joint operation

A joint operation conducted by the Rajdhani Unnayan Katripakkha (Rajuk) and the Department of Environment targeted temporary structures built on Gulshan Lake and its surrounding areas in the capital on Tuesday.

The operation was carried out under the special guidance of Syeda Rizwana Hasan, adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.

During the campaign, officials evicted illegally constructed structures, including adjoining nurseries, tin shed rooms, and encroachments involving bamboo and nets around the Gulshan-Baridhara Lake.

Gulshan Lake has been declared a Critical Area (ECA), where strict restrictions are enforced in accordance with the Bangladesh Environment Protection Act.

The eviction drive was led by Md Kamruzzaman, executive magistrate of the Rajuk, with the presence of Faizunnessa Akhtar, executive magistrate of the Monitoring and Enforcement Wing of the Directorate of Environment, along with teams from the Dhaka Metropolitan Office, Rajuk, and Vice President of Gulshan Society, Israt Jahan.

Prior to the operation, on Monday, Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan ordered the Department of Environment to take action against ongoing filling activities in Gulshan Lake, specifically located on Bir Uttam Road, Ward No 19, AK Khandkar, A/A Mauza Holding No-4/A.
