Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Md Mahmudul Hasan announced that the ongoing construction of the main roads in Dakshin Khan and Uttar Khan, under the newly incorporated 18 wards, will be completed by December.
He made this statement while speaking to locals during an inspection of the development work in Dakshin Khan on Tuesday afternoon.
“The two main roads in Dakshin Khan and Uttar Khan will be made traffic-friendly by November, and the entire project will be completed by December,” said the DNCC administrator.
He explained that the development work, including road and drainage construction, aims to achieve long-term sustainable growth in the area, though residents have faced difficulties during this period.
Mahmudul Hasan added that the heavy rains in September and October had slowed down the work. However, he assured the residents that efforts have been intensified to speed up the project and minimize their suffering.
"Instructions have been given to all those involved in the project to prioritize this work. We are fully prepared and committed to completing the project on time," he said.
He also highlighted the broader development plan, saying: "A project has been undertaken for the overall infrastructure development of this newly connected area to ensure all essential services for citizens. This is the first phase, and upon its completion, subsequent phases will follow. Once the ongoing project is implemented, the services in Dakshin Khan and Uttar Khan will be at par with the more developed areas of DNCC."
In response to a journalist's question about DNCC’s efforts to control dengue, the administrator said: “The DNCC has strengthened its regular dengue control activities. The area is divided for morning larviciding and afternoon fogging operations. Alongside mosquito control measures, cleaning operations are also ongoing, and the entire process is being closely monitored."
He added: "Although the number of dengue patients in the DNCC area is lower than last year, we aim to ensure that no one dies from dengue. The prolonged rainy season has slightly increased the dengue outbreak, but we are working to raise public awareness. People must ensure that water does not accumulate anywhere to prevent larvae from growing. With collective efforts, we can completely control dengue."
