The Mirpur-10 metro rail station has reopened, bringing relief to commuters after being closed for nearly 3 months.
Passengers began using the station according to the scheduled timetable on Tuesday, expressing satisfaction with the resumption of services.
The closure had forced many travellers to rely on nearby stations, increasing travel costs and causing significant inconvenience.
Commuters reported that the pressure on adjacent stations, particularly Kazipara and Mirpur-11, had risen sharply, resulting in longer wait times for tickets and boarding.
Shakib Hossain, a local resident, said: “I live in Mirpur-10, but I had to board the train at Mirpur-11 while this station was closed, which added extra expenses. The quick reopening of Mirpur-10 has been beneficial for us.”
Another passenger, Mukta, said: “The rapid reopening has greatly improved our situation. We had to travel by bus for some time due to the station’s closure.”
During a visit to the station, Muhammad Fauzul Kabir Khan, adviser to the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, said that reopening the Mirpur-10 station cost approximately Tk1.25 crore.
The Mirpur-10 station had been closed since July 18, following protests during which a police box in the area was set ablaze.
The ensuing smoke spread to the metro rail, leading to a suspension of services for safety reasons. The Kazipara station also suffered extensive damage during this time.
While the previous government had estimated that repairs would take a year, the current interim government successfully reopened the stations within three months, providing much-needed relief to the commuting public.
