Mirpur-10 metro rail station reopens after 1.25C spent on repairs

The Mirpur-10 metro rail station resumed operations after 2 months and 27 days, with government spending reaching Tk1.25 crore for the reopening.

Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, adviser for the Road Transport and Bridges Ministry, shared this information during a station inspection on Tuesday morning.

"It has cost us Tk1.25 crore to reopen the Mirpur-10 station. However, since we had to bring in several components from other stations and integrate them here, the combined cost, including imports, for both stations (along with the Kazipara station) will total Tk18.85 crore."

The adviser added: "We will have extra spare parts as well. The Kazipara station was reopened on September 20 at an initial cost of Tk22 lakh."

On July 18, during a “complete shutdown” program called by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, a police box located at the Mirpur-10 roundabout was set on fire.

The black smoke from the fire spread to the metro rail.

For public safety, operations were suspended that day at around 5:30pm.

The next day, a Friday and a weekly holiday, the metro rail remained closed. In the afternoon, the Kazipara and Mirpur-10 metro stations were vandalized. Both stations suffered significant damage and had to be closed for repairs.

Although the erstwhile Awami League government had estimated it would take a year to repair these two metro stations, the current interim government took the initiative to reopen them within three months.

Among these, the Kazipara station was reopened on September 20.
