Dhaka airport runway to remain closed for 3.5hrs nightly from Tuesday

Flight operations at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport will be suspended for 3.5 hours each night from Tuesday to October 14, to facilitate upgrades to the airport’s instrument landing system.

Group Captain Md Kamrul Islam, executive director of the airport, confirmed the decision on Sunday.

He said the runway will remain closed from 1am to 4:30am each day during the 14-day period for ILS Category 2 maintenance work.

During this time, all flight landings and take-offs will be temporarily halted.

"As part of routine maintenance work, we will be conducting repairs on the runway centerline lights, touchdown zone lights, and installing the stopway lighting system for runways 14 and 32," said Kamrul.

A NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) has already been issued to notify all relevant airlines and organizations.

The airport authority is advising passengers to reconfirm their flight schedules and has urged airlines to notify passengers in advance.

For further assistance, passengers can contact the airport's call centre at 13600.

This maintenance follows a similar runway closure between December 10, 2022, and June 10, 2023, when the runway was closed from 6pm to 2am daily for the construction of a new high-speed connecting taxiway as part of the airport’s third terminal development.
