3 customs officers suspended for allegedly mishandling passenger at Dhaka airport

The Dhaka Customs House has suspended three assistant revenue officers for their alleged mistreatment of a passenger at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

Mobara Khanam, commissioner of the Dhaka Customs House, confirmed the suspensions.

The suspended officers are Md Azizul Haque, Shimul Chowdhury, and Al Amin.

Additionally, an assistant revenue officer and a sub-inspector involved in the incident have been reassigned to the customs house headquarters.

This action aligns with the government’s commitment to upholding high standards of passenger service at the airport.

The officials came under scrutiny after a passenger returning from abroad on September 15 reported mistreatment during baggage inspection. The passenger alleged that their luggage was unnecessarily opened and that officials took chocolates from the bag and consumed them.

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) brought the complaint to the attention of the customs commissioner. Following a detailed investigation, the commissioner determined that the three assistant revenue officers were responsible for the misconduct and subsequently suspended them.
