The relief collection drive at Dhaka University's Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) managed to collect a total of Tk9,09,01,294 till now since the initiative began on August 22.
The “Relief Collection Program” was launched by Dhaka University students under the banner of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement to support flood victims.
The initiative, which began at TSC, quickly gained traction, with students from private universities, schools, and colleges joining in.
The effort received overwhelming public support, resulting in the collection of Tk9.09 crore.
Monday marked the final day of the program, during which only cash donations were accepted. Food items, bank transfers, and online donations were not accepted on the last day. This information was confirmed by volunteers at the relief booth.
Rakib Masud, a student from the Department of Organization Strategy and Leadership, has been involved with the program from the start.
"The relief collection has been ongoing since August 22. Today (Monday) is the 12th day, and it will be our last. Over the past 11 days, we've collected Tk9.09 crore. We'll finalize the accounts tonight," he said.
Rifat Ahmed, another student managing the booth, added: "Today is the final day for collecting donations, and we are only accepting cash. Discussions are ongoing about potential post-flood rehabilitation efforts, which may involve additional government funding. We also have surplus funds. The next steps will be decided in due course."
