Ehsanul Haque new Dhaka metropolitan public prosecutor

The government has appointed senior lawyer Ehsanul Haque Shomaji as Dhaka metropolitan's public prosecutor.

A gazette notification in this regard was issued on Wednesday by the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.

The gazette notification also noted the cancellation of Abdullah Abu’s appointment as Dhaka metropolitan public prosecutor.

Shomaji is a renowned criminal law expert and a lawyer at the Supreme Court of Bangladesh. 

He was a national consultant who drafted papers related to amendments to the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) under UNDP Bangladesh.

Shomaji was the Dhaka Metropolitan public prosecutor during the caretaker government's tenure from 2007 to 2009 and also served as the public prosecutor for the Anti-Corruption Commission.

He obtained his LLB (honours) in 1984 and his LLM degree in 1985 from Dhaka University. 

He enlisted as a lawyer on October 30, 1986 and became a member of the Dhaka Bar Association on November 4 of that year. 

He was enlisted in the High Court Division of the Bangladesh Supreme Court on April 7, 1988. 

On January 21, 1992, he became a Supreme Court Bar Association member.
