Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor ASM Maksud Kamal said that preparations have mostly been completed to observe International Mother Language Day on February 21.
The main altar of the Central Shaheed Minar will be ready by Tuesday.
He was speaking at a press briefing on the occasion of Amar Ekushey celebration at Professor Abdul Matin Chowdhury Virtual Classroom of the university at 12:30pm on Monday.
“People from all walks of life will go to Shaheed Minar through Palashi crossing in front of Salimullah Muslim Hall and Jagannath Hall. After paying homage at the Shaheed Minar, people can exit through the road in front of the DU playground and the road of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Besides, a route map has been prepared for people who will come to the Central Shaheed Minar and Azimpur Graveyard. I request everyone to follow the map properly,” said the VC.
"It will be open to people from all walks of life from the first hour of February 21. The president, the prime minister, the speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad, the chief justice, ministers, the deputy speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad and the leader of the opposition in parliament will place wreaths at the altar of the Shaheed Minar at 12 midnight.”
This year, he said, all organizations and individuals will be able to place wreaths at the altar of the Shaheed Minar.
He said there will be a control room at the physical education centre to coordinate the overall management of the Shaheed Day celebrations. No procession or rally can be held in the Shaheed Minar area in order to enable an observance of Amar Ekushey with sentiments and dignity. Besides, no banners, posters or pictures can be hung in the Shaheed Minar area.
Teachers, officers, employees of the university, BNCC, Red Crescent, Rover Scouts, Rangers and volunteers will be engaged in various duties at the entrance. He urged all to cooperate with them properly.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has issued a traffic advisory, and other directives, for the safe and unhindered observance of the historic Martyrs Day and International Mother Language Day on Wednesday, February 21.
Special traffic measures will be taken around the Central Shaheed Minar area from 6pm on Tuesday to 3pm on Wednesday.
