A teenager died of electrocution while hoisting the national flag on the roof of his house on the occasion of Victory Day at Kamrangirchar area of the capital early Saturday.
The deceased is Md Sujan, 14, son of Md Jalal Mia of Srinagar upazila of Munshiganj. Sujan used to work as a tailor.
Sujan's mother Aruna Begum said that on Friday night, upon completing his work, Sujan went to the rooftop to hoist the Bangladeshi flag in celebration of December 16 (Victory Day). He lost consciousness when he came into contact with an electric line while installing the flag.
Subsequently, he was rescued and taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around midnight. Following an examination, the attending doctor pronounced him deceased, she added.
Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police outpost in-Charge Md Bacchu Mia said that Sujan's body has been kept at the hospital morgue for post-mortem.
