Dhaka's rail link with parts of Bangladesh restored

The railway connection between Dhaka and most parts of Bangladesh which disrupted following a collision between a Dhaka-bound Titas train and a crane working on the Dhaka Elevated Expressway project near Tejgaon station on Thursday evening has been restored.

Kamalapur station master Anwar Hossain said that at around 9:30pm, the rail communication was restored as the derailed train was removed from the spot.

The incident occurred around 5:20pm, causing the engine and one compartment of the train to derail. However, no casualties were reported.

Witnesses had said that the Titas commuter train collided with the crane of the elevated expressway while en route from Tejgaon railway station to Kamalapur station.

Since the incident, the railway authorities have announced the suspension of rail communication with Dhaka throughout the country.

The disruption in rail communication had left passengers waiting at Kamalapur railway station, facing delays and expressing frustration over the incident. Many passengers were found sitting or lying at the station, awaiting updates on the situation.
