Two buses were set on fire in the capital's Mirpur and Motijheel areas on Monday afternoon, amid the ongoing 48-hour hartal announced by BNP and its like-minded parties in protest against the announcement of the national polls scheduled by the Election Commission.
A BRTC double decker bus was torched in Mirpur-10 area on Monday afternoon.
Two fire engines reached the spot around 2:35pm and firefighters doused the blaze around 2:45pm, said Shahjahan Sardar, senior station officer of Mirpur Fire Station.
The arsonists set the fire on the upper deck of the bus, he said.
Another bus was torched by a group of unidentified miscreants in Motijheel area.
The bus of “Trans Silva Paribahan” was set on fire around 3:30pm.
