Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested 12 people on charges of attempted sabotage and setting fire to vehicles from Vasantek, Shah Ali and Shahbagh police stations of the capital on Wednesday night.
The arrested include Mahfuz Hossain Muna, Md Yasin, Md Farhad, Md Mahi, Md Aulad Hossain, Md Nasim, Md Amzan Ali Hossain and Md Tanveer Hossain.
According to the police, at that time, various weapons and other objects and materials used for sabotage were recovered.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime and Operations) Dr Kh Mahid Uddin gave the information in a press conference at DMP Media Centre on Thursday.
He said that following the announcement of the schedule for the 12th national parliamentary election on Wednesday night, the Vasantek police station received information that some miscreants were situated on the ground floor of an under-construction building in East Vasantek area, armed with Molotov cocktails, petrol bombs, bricks, and sticks.
Based on this information, the team of Vasantek police station conducted a raid there. Eight miscreants were arrested during the time.
Meanwhile, in another incident, two buses of Manarat International University parked at Shah Ali police station area were set on fire on Wednesday night.
Shah Ali police arrested Nizam Uddin Jasim, joint general secretary of Rupnagar thana BNP, from Shewrapara.
During the arrest, 2.5 litres of kerosene, 500 grams of petrol, 500 grams of phenyl liquid and a banner of Rupnagar thana BNP were recovered from him. There are several cases against him in different police stations of the capital.
Besides, three miscreants were arrested by Shahbagh police station on Wednesday while fleeing after detonating four to five cocktails in Dhaka University's TSC area.
