Humaira Himu, a beloved figure in the small screen community, tragically passed away on Thursday. Her lifeless body was discovered hanging from the ceiling fan at her Uttara residence.
Following the incident, another individual named Md Ziauddin alias Rufi and reportedly a close friend of Humaira, brought her to Uttara Modern Medical College Hospital at 4:46pm. Humaira was declared dead by the attending doctor.
Following this, Rufi disappeared, raising suspicions and deepening the mystery surrounding Humaira's death.
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) later confirmed the arrest of Rufi from the Bangshal area of the capital on Friday.
Senior Assistant Police Commissioner Jyotirmoy Saha of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Uttara Zone said: "We have learned from her relatives that actress Humaira had been using an online app called Bigo for quite some time. Her increasing involvement with this app apparently led to an addiction.
Mohammad Ziauddin Rufi, a friend and alleged lover of Humaira, was unable to cope with this situation, leading to arguments between him and Humaira. Rufi frequently visited her residence, where only Humaira's makeup artist, Mehir, was regularly present."
The police officer further explained that RAB had already arrested Rufi. However, he said that more details could only be disclosed once the legal process was completed and investigations progressed further.
Following the post-mortem examination of Humaira Himu's body, Sub-Inspector Masuda Khatun from the capital's North-West police station confirmed that there were no apparent injuries on her body. However, rope marks were found around her neck.
"Two individuals known to Humaira Himu brought her to the hospital. There were no visible injuries, except for the rope marks on her neck. It appears she may have committed suicide, although the exact cause of death can only be determined by the doctor after the autopsy report from Shaheed Suhrawardy Hospital," said Khatun.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Uttara Division of DMP, Morshed Alam, revealed that preliminary inquiries suggested Humaira Himu had taken her own life. He indicated that Himu was romantically involved with Rufi, leading to recent tensions between them.
"Rufi left Humaira at the hospital and fled. An interrogation with him might reveal more about the actress's cause of death," added the deputy commissioner, highlighting the need for further investigation.
