Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh has said that playgrounds will be built in the new 18 wards under DSCC in a planned manner.
The DSCC mayor informed about this plan after visiting Mendipur playground in Demra area on Wednesday afternoon.
"In the election manifesto, I said, whether small or big, every ward will take initiative to construct at least one playground/garden. In view of that, we cleared many areas and constructed new playgrounds in 10 wards. Ward number 70, which we have come to today, was earlier under the union parishad,” he said.
Ward number 70 is one of the new 18 wards which have been included in the city corporation. In these 18 new wards, planned playgrounds will be created, said the mayor.
While responding to the journalists, Taposh said that there is no much benefit of making lists of the encroachers. New encroachers grab lands again.
He said: “As soon as we freed the canals, we cleared a large part in the first phase. But it can be seen that the encroachers do not stop…But they are always looking for opportunities and they try to take over again.
“That's why, DSCC is taking a long-term plan to save the canal. We are giving top priority to the implementation of the project including four canals (Shyampur, Jirani, Manda and Kalungar canals) which the prime minister has instructed,” Mayor Taposh added.
In response to another question from journalists about the sockwell and septic tank, he said that it is so tough. Because what has been happening unplanned for 50 years cannot be expected to be completed very soon.
“On the one hand, we are encouraging those who are constructing new houses and buildings to install their own sockwells and septic tanks.”
“In many cases, we are being strict with them to install their own septic tanks and sockwells. Because, you know -- the sewage system is still with Wasa. But they still can't build sewage drains and there's no guarantee that they ever will,” he said.
If every house, building and establishment has its own septic tank and sockwell as per existing building codes, the water coming out of the buildings will be clear water, added Taposh.
