Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Abu Hanif Tushar alias Hanif Mia on the charge of deceiving huge amount of money by claiming to be a family member of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
A team of RAB arrested him from Bashundhara residential area of the capital on Tuesday night.
At that time, foreign firearms were seized from him.
Commander Khandaker Al Moin, director of RAB's law and media wing, confirmed the information.
He revealed that a group of individuals orchestrated extensive financial fraud by offering false inducements, such as nominations in national parliamentary elections, appointments to key government positions, and promotions within the state apparatus. They did so by falsely presenting themselves as close relatives of the prime minister's family.
Hanif Miah is the mastermind of the fraud ring. There are many specific allegations of fraud against him.
Commander Khandaker Al Moin also said that details will be given in a press conference to be organized at RAB Media Centre in Karwan Bazar of the capital on Wednesday.
