DNCC Mayor: Sustainable effort necessary to overcome Dhaka’s problems

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Annisul Huq has said that sustainable, long term effort is necessary to combat the various problems afflicting Dhaka city, including flooding and traffic congestion. “Flooding of roads and traffic jams are two major problems for Dhaka, but our efforts so far have not been sustainable. When planning for 2035, we need to ensure the everyday problems of the people are given due importance,” Mayor Annisul said on Wednesday. He made the statement at an international conference on "Development options for Dhaka moving towards 2035," held at Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka. The DNCC mayor added that, with Dhaka now being the second most densely populated city in the world, it was surprising that more people did not rub each other wrong. “We have no integrated plan for Dhaka city. It should have been made 10-20 years ago. However, we still need to move forward and make the city as livable as possible,” the mayor said.
