Two aircraft of Biman Bangladesh Airlines and Fly Dubai on Saturday were damaged by bird strikes at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
A bird entered the landing gear of the Biman's Thailand-bound flight during takeoff, said Tahera Khondoker, general manager of Biman Bangladesh Airlines.
“As a result, the flight was cancelled and taken for repairs. The passengers were sent to Bangkok on another flight,” she added.
The aircraft was ready for the next flight at 8:30pm after the repairs were completed, the official said.
Another Boeing 737 aircraft of Fly Dubai also faced a similar incident. The bird strike damaged the aircraft’s engine and landing gear.
There were 185 passengers on that flight. The flight was later cancelled and brought to the apron. The passengers were taken to a hotel.
An official of the airline said that the engineering team from Dubai has left for Dhaka, and the repair works will begin soon.
