DNCC anti-mosquito drive: 14L collected in fines on first day

The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has collected over Tk14 lakh in fines in 17 cases filed on the first day of its month-long special anti-mosquito campaign.

DNCC authorities, along with Mayor Atiqul Islam, on Saturday visited 10 areas of the city corporation and fined people and establishments where mosquito larvae were found

“No one knows where I will go during the drive. If informed in advance, people will clear the area out. So I will go on visits without informing anyone to see the actual situation of the areas. I don't trust anyone in this case,” said the mayor.

Stating that the city corporation workers will not clean the water accumulated inside the building, Mayor Atiq said, "Our workers cannot enter the buildings. Studies have shown that basements where cars are stored and washed are home to about 48% of Aedes larvae. So the building owners have to take the responsibility of keeping the environment inside the building clean.”

The anti-mosquito campaign will continue throughout the entire month of July.

Meanwhile, to tackle the worsening dengue situation in the capital, the DNCC has deployed drones to identify mosquito breeding sites, especially on rooftop gardens.

DNCC Chief Executive Officer Selim Reza launched the survey program in the Mohammadpur area around 11am on Wednesday to identify accumulated water on rooftops.

The drone survey is going on in five areas under the DNCC.
