Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Friday said the system integration test for the metro rail from Agargaon to Motijheel will be conducted from Friday until October 15.
“The metro rail project is a significant mega project of the Sheikh Hasina government. We hope that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the metro rail from Agargaon to Motijheel upon the test run completion in October,” he said while talking to journalists during the inauguration of the test run of the metro rail at the Agargaon metro station.
“We will be able to complete the work on all six lines of the metro rail project by the year 2030,” said the bridges minister.
Obaidul Quader, also Awami League general secretary, emphasized that just a year ago, ordinary people could not even imagine the Padma Bridge or the metro rail.
“The government is showcasing the execution of these projects to the public, highlighting the significance of political determination,” he said.
“Mere politics is not enough; a vision is necessary to undertake and execute any project,” the minister remarked.
At the end of the news conference, Obaidul Quader inaugurated the test run of the Agargaon to Motijheel section of metro rail from Agargaon station at 4:38pm.
The train, consisting of six coaches, reached Motijheel station at 5:17pm.
On December 28, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the country's first elevated metro rail service, setting a milestone in the country's communication history.
This 21.26km long metro rail will reach Kamalapur from Uttara North in just 40 minutes with stops at 17 stations.
Metro train has 24 sets of six coaches. Each metro train has a maximum passenger carrying capacity of 2,308 and a capacity of 60,000 passengers per hour and 5000,000 passengers per day.
