At least three people sustained burn wounds in a fire that broke out at a high-rise commercial building in the Bangla Motor area of Dhaka on Saturday.

The injured are Mamun Khan, 31, Tafsir Mia, 26 and Mani Fakir, 20. They are employees of Rabeya Enterprise, an import company for toys.

The fire was brought under control at 2pm by the fire fighting units.

The victims are currently being treated at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

Mamun has suffered 34% burns, Tafsir 7% and Manik 2%, said SM Ayub Hossain, a resident surgeon at the hospital. “Among them, Mamun is in a critical state.”

So far, no casualties have been reported in this incident.

Duty officer of the Dhaka Fire Service and Civil Defence control room Rozina Akter said the fire broke out on the seventh floor of the 10-storey RK Tower around 12:15pm and spread soon.

On information, four fire tenders were rushed to the spot. "Only a probe can ascertain the exact cause of the fire," she said.
