A 45-year-old man died after being hit by a train in Dhaka early on Sunday.
The authorities identified him as Muhammad Ashraful Alam, deputy comptroller at Jahangirnagar University.
Rezaul Masum, an uncle of the deceased, said a train hit Ashraful while he was crossing a railway track near the Khilgaon level-crossing at around 10pm on Saturday, leaving him critically injured.
He was rushed to a local hospital and then shifted to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the doctor on duty pronounced him dead at 2am on Sunday, according to Sub-Inspector Ashraf of the Railway Police.
The accident took place as Ashraful was not alert to the dangers of incoming trains on the track, he remarked.
