Posing as DB men, armed muggers make away with 5L in Gazipur

A group of men posing as officers of the Detective Branch (DB) of police have mugged Tk5 lakh from the manager of a private firm at gunpoint in Sreepur, Gazipur. 

The incident took place in the Jaina Bazar area of Nagarhaola village under the upazila’s Telihati union around midday on Sunday, according to the victim and police.

Victim Zakir Hossain, manager of ACI Godrej Agrovet Pvt Ltd, was carrying Tk5.22 lakh when he was picked up by three muggers in a white microbus, said Sreepur police OC Khandaker Imam Hossain.

Hossain Mubarak, another official of the company, said Zakir was on his way to deposit the money at a bank. The microbus stopped in front of Zakir when he was a little far from their Jaina Bazar office.

Three armed youths got down from the vehicle, identified themselves as DB officers and whisked Zakir away while calling him a drug dealer.

Later, they threw him out from the moving vehicle on the side of Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway near Bhoradoba area of Bhaluka upazila in Mymensingh.

OC Hossain said senior police officers and different teams of the Gazipur DB office and Sreepur police had visited the crime scenes and were investigating. “Legal steps are underway.”
