A 50-year-old woman was beaten to death while a man sustained injuries over a land dispute in the capital's North Badda area on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Rubina Begum. Her nephew Hasidul, 27, was injured in the incident, said police.
Mahbubur Rahman, brother of the deceased, said that Rubina’s nephews-- Faisal, Badshah, and Zayrul--along with some others, hit her head with a rod while she was trying to resist them from occupying her land in Boro Berait area, leaving her seriously injured.
“Seeing this, Hasidul came forward and also ended up getting hit on the head. The dispute over the property had been going on for a long time,” he added.She was rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in a critical condition. Later, the on-duty doctor declared Rubina dead.
However, Hasidul was released after giving first aid.
Talking to Dhaka Tribune, Badda police sub-inspector (SI) Mahmud Hasan said the body has been kept at the DMCH morgue for an autopsy.
Preparation was underway to file a case in this regard, said the SI, adding that efforts were underway to arrest the accused.
