College teacher Ruma Sarker sent to jail in DSA case

A Dhaka court on Sunday sent Begum Badrunnessa Government Girls' College Associate Prof Ruma Sarker to jail in a case lodged under Digital Security Act (DSA).

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sadbir Yasir Ahsan Chowdhury passed the order as police produced Ruma before the court after the end of her two-day remand in the case and pleaded to keep her behind the bars till the end of the probe.

On October 21, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Masud Ur Rahman had placed Ruma on the two-day remand.

Ruma had uploaded a video of the murder of one Shahinuddin in Dhaka’s Pallabi, claiming it to be the footage of the murder of Jatan Kumar Saha, who died in a mob attack in Noakhali's Begumganj upazila on October 15.

She is also accused of spreading communal hatred through sharing rumours on social networking sites.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Ruma from her Bailey Road flat on

October 20 and filed the case with Ramna police station.
