Due to incessant rain since Wednesday morning, various roads in Dhaka, including Banasree, Mirpur, Mohammadpur, and Dhanmondi areas, have become waterlogged.
As the second day of the Eid-ul-Azha holiday continues, the number of public transport in the capital has significantly reduced
As a result, rickshaws and CNG drivers are charging higher fares, causing distress to city dwellers and passengers who are leaving Dhaka to celebrate one of the biggest festivals of Muslims with their families.
Those who were preparing for Eid shopping have been housebound since the morning.
However, some are heading to the cattle market or shopping malls as the rain has lessened in the afternoon.
Rezaul, a resident of Indira Road in Dhaka, said: "I could not get out of the house due to the rain in the morning. However, the heat has lessened due to the rain."
"I have to do quite a bit of shopping for the day before Eid. I will not be at ease until the shopping for the kids is done," he added.
Waterlogging due to incessant rain has caused traffic congestion on various roads as well, increasing the woes of Dhaka residents who have not finished buying cattle or shopping.
The rainwater has also accumulated in the cattle market. Many cattle are getting wet as there are not enough shelters in many markets.
Some customers were seen managing to find a dry place by the roadside to keep their cattle dry.
Passengers were also seen waiting for buses at various terminals. Many are getting soaked in the rain. Many were seen reaching bus stands with excessive fares.
Bahauddin, a resident of Gabtoli in the capital, said: "The rickshaw fare from our house to Gabtoli bus stand is Tk40. I had to come by paying Tk80 due to the rain. Now I am waiting for the bus."
Dhaka Metropolitan Police Darussalam Zone Sergeant (Traffic) Alamgir Hossain said vehicles are entering and leaving Gabtoli as usual.
“However, there is some problem due to the cattle market and rain. We are carrying out our duties keeping everything in mind," he added.
