Metro rail to run from 8am-8pm starting Wednesday

Dhaka metro rail will run from 8am to 8pm, six days a week, from Wednesday.

The weekly closure of the service will be Friday, instead of Tuesday, as per the new schedule.

The new schedule divides the 12 hours of operating time into four parts.

During the designated peak hours, from 8am to 11am, trains will arrive at the stations every 10 minutes in both directions.

From 11am to 3pm, which is considered the off-peak hours due to lower passenger pressure, trains will leave the stations every 15 minutes.

The hours between 3pm to 6pm will again be classified as peak hours, while the period from 6pm to 8pm will be considered off-peak hours.

Earlier, the metro rail was operated from 8am to 2pm.

The authorities are considering operating the metro rail till midnight by July, and the schedule may be finalized soon.

On December 28, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the country's first elevated metro rail service, setting a milestone in the country's communication history.

She opened an 11.73-km part of the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Line-6 of the metro rail project from Diabari to Agargaon by unveiling its plaque at Diabari in Dhaka.
