Metro rail authorities have identified several buildings in the incident of throwing stones at the metro rail, damaging one of its coach windows. They believe the stone was thrown from any one of these buildings.
Dhaka Mass Transit Company Ltd Managing Director MAN Siddique shared this information on Saturday, saying that CCTV footage of the stone pelting incident has been handed over to law enforcement agencies.
“They will investigate and take necessary actions,” he added.
MAN Siddique said the stone was thrown at the metro rail between the Kazipara and Shewrapara areas in the eastern part of the capital.
“Although three to four buildings have been identified through CCTV footage, it remains unclear which building the stone was thrown from,” he said.
Kafrul police station Officer-in-Charge Hafizur Rahman confirmed that efforts are underway to pinpoint the exact building and individual responsible for the stone pelting, as well as to determine their motive.
A glass window of metro rail's coach was damaged after a stone was thrown at it on the way from Agargaon to Uttara North station around 11am last Sunday.
In this incident, the metro rail authorities filed a case under Section 427 of the Penal Code along with Sections 35 and 43 of the Metro Rail Act-2015 at Kafrul police station.
The metro rail authorities incurred a loss of Tk10 lakh repairing the damaged glass caused by the thrown stone.
If the criminal is identified, there is a provision of five years of imprisonment or a fine of Tk50 lakh, or even both, according to the Metro Rail Act 2015.
