Fire guts shop in Dhaka, 9 injured

A shop located in the Dhupkhola area of Dhaka was gutted by a fire on Monday morning, leaving nine individuals injured. 

The injured were immediately taken to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital and Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery for treatment.

The injured are Md Sohel, 48, Mehedi Hasan Shawon, 22, Md Rashed Mia, 32, Md Ali Hosen, 52, Sahera Begum, 65, Md Mizanur Rahman, 32, Abdur Rahim, 50, Mim Akter, 21, Md Alif, 2.

According to the injured, the explosion occurred when they were sitting and repair work for a Wasa line was going on nearby.

They claimed that no security measures were taken during work.

At least two units of the Fire Service and Civil Defence went to the scene after they were informed at 9:20am about the fire breaking out near the Dhupkhola field.

After 45 minutes of intense effort, the firefighters finally brought the blaze under control, said Duty Officer Lima Khanam of the Fire Service Control Room.

However, she could not provide any details about the shop or the extent of the damages. She added that no casualties were reported.
