On Monday night, panic gripped the city dwellers as a smell of gas spread on the streets in different areas of the capital.
The smell was detected in several areas including Eskaton, Green Road, Mohakhali, Azimpur, Dhanmondi, Malibagh, Rampura and Badda.
Out of fear, many residents had left their homes for the streets to avoid casualties from a potential disaster.
Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited had advised the city residents not to panic as the gas supply to industrial factories was stopped during Eid hence the smell was coming out due to the increase in gas pressure in the transmission and distribution lines (overflow).
