A fire that broke out on the second floor of the jewellery market adjacent to the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in Dhaka on Monday is under control.
Local shopkeepers managed to douse the flame before the arrival of the members of the Fire Service and Civil Defence.
Fire Service and Civil Defence duty officer Rozina Akhter said the fire broke out at 2:52pm and three firefighting units were dispatched upon receiving the news.
“However, the fire was brought under control before they arrived,” she said.
Recently, a series of fire incidents in the capital's different markets raised questions about fire safety management in the markets.
