Dhaka recorded the highest temperature of 39.5°C on Thursday this season.
Bangladesh Meteorological Department expressed concern that if the trend continues, the heat may surpass previous records in the coming days.
Previously, the highest temperature in Dhaka was recorded at 40.2°C in 2014, and it rose to 39°C in 2016.
Later in 2021, the temperature rose to 39.5°C, which is similar to Thursday's temperature.
The highest temperature in the country was recorded in Chuadanga at 39.7°C at around 3pm.
Meteorologist Mizanur Rahman said the temperature recorded in almost all regions is the highest temperature of the season.
“The temperature may rise slightly or stay the same. In the event of a slight rise, there is a chance that the temperature may surpass the ones recorded in previous years,” he added.
Regarding the possibility of rain, the meteorologist said there was no chance of rainfall before Sunday. “Even if it rains, it will be a mild to moderate rainfall. The heat will not abate.”
Met Office in its 24-hour weather forecast said: “Trough of low lies over West Bengal and adjoining area. Seasonal low lies over South Bay. Weather may remain dry with the temporary partly cloudy sky over the country.”
A mild to moderate heat wave is sweeping over Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal,
Chittagong and Sylhet divisions and it may continue, it adds.
