The Dhaka metro rail will operate from 8am to 2pm from April 5, allowing passengers to enjoy the modern service for more time.
Currently, metro rail services are available from 8:30am to 12:30pm, Managing Director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Ltd MAN Siddique said at a press conference at the DMTCL office Thursday.
He said the metro trains were available for four hours daily - from 8am to noon - in the beginning.
As commuters had good experiences, DMTCL decided to increase operational time till 2pm, the managing director said.
He said Uttara South and Shewrapara stations will be open to the public from Friday.
With the opening of the two new stations, commuters will be able to enjoy the metro rail using all nine stations from Uttara to Agargaon.
"We have formed two teams that will coordinate with the operation teams of the Uttara South and Shewrapara stations for operation," said a DMTCL official.
On December 28, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the country's first elevated metro rail service, setting a milestone in the country's communication history.
She opened an 11.73-km part of the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Line-6 of the metro rail project from Diabari to Agargaon by unveiling its plaque at Diabari in Dhaka.
