Following the Sunday's blast on the third floor of a building named "Shirin Mansion" in Dhaka's Science Lab area, the business establishments of the building and adjoining areas remain closed since the incident.
On Monday morning, it was found during a visit to the Science Lab area, the businessmen have started opening their shops slowly.
However, the area near the explosion was cordoned off by the police. Media workers were also found busy around the building.
Next to the Science Lab, there are various business establishments including clothes, tailors, shoe shops, near the blast site.
Talking to the affected businessmen, it is known that the shops were closed for the whole day on Sunday due to the explosion.
Even on Monday, traffic in the area is under control, so there is almost no trade.
The businessmen claimed that the financial loss till Monday afternoon due to the explosion was at least Tk50 lakh.
On Monday morning, the business among the shopkeepers was seen at the Priyangan Shopping centre next to the Science Lab intersection. They were busy packing.
While talking to Gopal Chandra, in charge of Fabrics and Fashion (F&F), he said that they are two clothing stores. Shops were not opened on Sunday as the market was closed due to the explosion. The loss was around Tk1.5 lakh to Tk2lakh.
Md Rezaul Haque, the owner of wholesaler 'Reshma Fashion Tailors' of the same building, said: "Due to the explosion, the shop was closed all day and there was no sale at all."
“Even today, the road is closed as the rescue work is not over. As parking cannot be done, there will be no sale even today. There is a loss of about Tk60,000 in two days.”
There are several cloth shops on the ground floor of Khan Plaza adjacent to Shirin Mansion.
AP Fashion's Chanchal Mallick said: "We do both retail and wholesale business. We could not do any kind of shopping on Sunday. There has been a loss of approximately Tk50,000 in two days.”
Priyangan Shopping Centre Shop Owners Association President Noor Navi told Bangla Tribune: “Sunday's explosion took place in the building next to us. Few shops of the shopping centre have been affected in the blast. We have about 210 retail and wholesale stores. It can be said that the damage to the nearby shops is around Tk50 lakh.”
At least three people were killed and dozens were injured in the explosion in Dhaka's Science Lab area on Sunday morning.
The incident, which took place at around 10:52am, left part of the three-story “Shirin Mansion” partially collapsed.
