A total of 36 students from different departments under the Faculty of Social Science of Dhaka University have been given Dean's Award on Sunday for their excellent academic results in BSS (Hons) examinations under four academic sessions from 2017-20.
DU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman, who addressed the program as chief guest, handed over the awards to the recipients, according to a press release.
The program was presided over by Social Science Faculty Dean Dr Zia Rahman. DU Pro-VC (Administration) Dr Mohammad Samad, Pro-VC (Academic) Dr ASM Maksud Kamal and Treasurer Professor Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed attended the program as special guests. Besides, president of Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS) Binayak Sen spoke as the Dean's Award speaker.
VC Md Akhtaruzzaman said: “The departments of the faculty have been established in view of the needs at present and have played a role in the socio-economic development of the country. We expect the students to grow up with a better, humane, and liberal outlook and contributing to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals 2030.”

To work on social science, one must first know the history of the country. Whatever career you choose, be considerate rather than self-centred. Also, work for the society and people.”
Congratulating the graduates, Social Science Faculty Dean Dr Zia Rahman said: “Despite our lack of capacity, the faculty tried to hour the meritorious students.”
Three students from the Department of Economics, five students from the Department of Political Science, two students from the Department of International Relations, two students from the Department of Sociology, one student from the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, five students from the Department of Public Administration, one student from the Department of Anthropology, two students from the Department of Population Sciences, three students from the Department of Peace and Conflict Studies, three students from Department of Women and Gender Studies, three students from Department of Development Studies, two students from Department of Television, Film, and Photography, three students from Department of Criminology and one student from Department of Communication Disorders received the Dean's Award.
