Gulshan blaze: Building still not out of danger

The multi-storey building that caught fire on Sunday in the capital's Gulshan-2 has not yet been declared danger free, police said on Tuesday.

The building will be inspected by related agencies including Fire Service and Civil Defence and Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk), Abdul Ahad, deputy commissioner (DC) of Gulshan Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said on Tuesday.

After that, it will be informed whether the building is safe or not. Then, the residents can return to the building only after it is declared safe, he said.

Abdul Ahad added: “We are now providing security by positioning outside the building.”

According to sources, the building is undergoing testing. Owners of different flats are coming and taking essentials from their flats. After the fire, the electricity and gas connection to the building was disconnected for safety reasons and the connection is still cut off.”

Rajuk says that the building has been constructed according to the rules. They have not found any violations of the rules so far.

On Sunday evening, a fire broke out on the 13th floor of “Zakir Musharraf Skyline” on Road no 104 of Gulshan-2 area last Sunday evening.

At least two people died in the incident, after jumping off the building to save themselves. Several others were injured.

A case was filed with Gulshan police station on Monday night.
