Shama Rahman Sinha was stuck in the elevator on the 7th floor of the building while going down from her apartment on 11th floor. She had to force her way out onto a balcony and then jumped into a swimming pool below in an attempt to survive.
Currently, she is undergoing treatment in the ICU of Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
Shama is the wife of Fahim Sinha, director of ACME Group, as well as the director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
Besides, two other people who were rescued from the 10th floor of the same building are receiving treatment.
Another injured Musa Sikder said: “Shama Rahman Sinha kept calling to get help for us. We tried to open the door to bring us to the 10th floor but by then the fire had reached our floor. Everything was dark with smoke. After a while, I saw someone jump and fall into the swimming pool while another fell on the roof.”
Meanwhile, director of the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, Prof Rayhana Awwal said that Shama was currently doing better but she has several fractures. Her lower back was bruised after hitting the cement floor of the pool jumping from the 7th floor. She would be kept at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for up to 72 hours.
Meanwhile, an 18-member medical board has been formed at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in this incident.
